Barb McWhirter
Community Support Worker
Barb was raised on Salt Spring Island before moving to Victoria after 23 years, where she raised her two children. In 2014, she moved to the Cowichan Valley and eventually found her way to Cedars. Following a serious illness and her own journey through addiction recovery, Barb joined the housekeeping team to get back into the workforce. After working alongside Annaleese and Sheila in Housekeeping, she later transferred to the CSW team.
Barb loves that her own experiences have given her the opportunity to provide support, understanding, and encouragement to Cedars clients. She is grateful to be able to draw on what she has learned along her own journey while supporting others on theirs.
Outside of work, Barb's life is centred around family and friends. She enjoys spending time with her aging parents, getting silly with her young grandchildren, and trying to “adult” with her son and daughter. She also spends time supporting her sister through her cancer journey. When she isn't with family, Barb enjoys hiking with her dog, reading, spending time outdoors, and exploring her new home in Chemainus as she settles in. She also loves spending time with friends and doing just about anything that brings people together.
