Brigette Lebrun

Brigette is an experienced health professional and community leader with a career dedicated to wellness, recreation and the preservation of her Metis Culture. Born in the Vancouver Mainland and a descendant of the Red River Metis, Brigette holds a degree in Physical Education and Recreation form UBC.

With a versatile background in the health industry, Brigette has served as a personal trainer, assistant coach, as well an instructor in cardiac rehabilitation. Her professional journey has spanned the private sector, non-profits like the YMCA, local recreation centers, as well as work with Island Health and school districts. This broad expertise is informed by a global perspective, gained through years of living in the United States, and Germany and working in England and Finland.

Since relocating to the Cowichan Valley, Brigette has successfully integrated her clinical background with a deep commitment to cultural and artistic expression. After reconnecting with her Metis heritage in 2006, she began a transformative spiritual journey in 2017 under the mentorship of Bruce Dumont and Jan Ovans. Today, Brigette serves as an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper and an active Board Member for the Cowichan Valley Metis since 2020.

A dedicated member of the Cowichan Valley Arts Council, Brigette is also an accomplished artist whose work focuses on traditional Metis art and dance. By bridging the gap between physical health and spiritual heritage, she continues to serve as a vital resource for cultural knowledge and wellness within the community.
