James Johnnie, known as JJ, is from Whitehorse, Yukon, and is a member of Kwanlin Dün First Nation, from the Crow Clan. Northern Tutchone is his Native language. After going through treatment at Cedars twice, JJ returned to the community more than a year into his recovery, this time as a member of the staff team.

As an Indigenous person from the Yukon, JJ was drawn to working at Cedars because of the number of people who come from the Yukon Territory for treatment. He wanted to be able to offer Yukoners a familiar and friendly face while they are away from home and beginning or continuing their recovery journey. He believes that having someone who understands where they come from and shares a connection to home can make a meaningful difference and help people feel more comfortable and supported as they continue on their path of recovery.

Outside of work, JJ enjoys travelling and playing recreational softball throughout the summer. He also enjoys meeting new people, building connections, and becoming more involved in the recovery community.
