Keara Boan
Counsellor
Keara is originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, and moved to Nanaimo in 2021, marking the beginning of her recovery journey. She is Métis and grew up disconnected from her cultural roots, as Métis identity was not openly discussed within her family. This led to a deep longing to reconnect with a part of herself that had long felt missing.
As an adult, Keara has intentionally begun reclaiming her cultural identity by learning the Swampy Cree dialect, drawing strength from her ancestors, and connecting with her spirit through ceremony. Her recovery is guided by the Medicine Wheel teachings, emphasizing balance and care for her spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical well-being as part of her walk on the Red Road.
Keara is also committed to a 12-step recovery program, where she values service and supports other women through sponsorship. She finds grounding and spiritual connection in nature, particularly when swimming in the rivers, lakes, and ocean waters of Vancouver Island. Keara is deeply grateful for her recovery, which has made her current quality of life possible, and she is proud of the meaningful life she continues to build. Keara is honoured to be part of the Cedars Clinical team, where she holds space for others as they reconnect with their spirit, remember their light, and gently return to themselves.
