Michelle Wood
Counsellor
Michelle Wood brings lived experience as a Cedars alumni, along with formal education and professional expertise in recovery, addictions, and Indigenous cultural wellness. She has supported individuals across diverse settings, including her work with Island Health Mental Health and Substance Use teams, the Addiction Medicine Consult Team at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, and as Indigenous Cultural Liaison at Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre, where she guided clients through culture-based healing and recovery practices.
Michelle is an associate member of the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation, with the goal being Indigenous Addiction Counsellor Certification. She is also a Certified SMART Recovery Facilitator, a Certified Wellbriety Firestarter, and trained in Sacred Space Gatherings. Her practice weaves together evidence-informed approaches with Indigenous teachings, the Medicine Wheel, and the principles of Wellbriety to support healing across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions.
On her own path of growth, Michelle is working closely with Cedars Elders as an Elder-in-training, learning the ways of the Sweat Lodge and Full Moon ceremonies. With a compassionate, client-centered, and trauma-informed approach, Michelle is deeply committed to helping others restore balance, resilience, and lasting recovery — to walk with good mind, good heart, and good intention - to walk the Red Road.
