Niel Doerksen

Indigenous Spiritual Services

Niel is Métis and has spent more than 35 years serving as a Fire Keeper and supporting others through Sweat Lodge ceremonies. He is passionate about sharing traditional knowledge with respect and humility and feels there is always more to learn.

Niel has long been studying other cultures, beliefs, and spiritual practices to have a better understanding of where people are coming from—their traditions, culture, and the foundations of their beliefs—in order to support them in a good way, from a place of understanding and compassion. He keeps his mind open to other people's journeys, experiences, and perspectives.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Niel has a deep appreciation for the land and the teachings it provides. He is honoured to be part of Cedars' Land-Based Program and to share the wisdom and knowledge passed down through the Elders and others from many different Nations. He is grateful for the opportunity to continue learning alongside others.
