Shelby Johnston

Counsellor

Originally from Calgary and proudly rooted in Nanaimo since 2020, Shelby brings lived experience, professional training, and just the right amount of quirky charm to her work as a counsellor. A Cedars alumni, she knows firsthand that recovery isn’t just about getting better—it’s about building a life that’s actually worth living (and maybe even having a little fun along the way!).

Currently completing her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Indigenous Studies at Vancouver Island University, Shelby is passionate about holistic wellness, community connection, and weaving spirituality into the healing process. Her approach is grounded, relational, and centred on meeting people where they are.

When she’s not supporting others in their recovery journey, she’s likely at the gym, out riding her motorcycle, or deep in conversation about life, energy, and everything in between.

Her long-term vision is to help shape and implement recovery programs and policies that make a real difference. For now, she’s here—holding space, offering encouragement, and occasionally offering an unexpected but fitting motorcycle metaphor about the road to recovery.
